AES will host a new session for Fellowship Program Directors at this year's Annual Meeting. The session is intended for current Epilepsy Fellowship Program Directors, Clinical Neurophysiology Program Directors, and those interested in starting an Epilepsy Fellowship
Mentoring Session for Junior Investigators The Annual Meeting will again include an opportunity for junior epilepsy researchers to be paired with a mentor. This popular program, held Saturday, December 6 from 7:00 – 8:30am, aims to foster the careers of young investigators by matching them with an experienced clinical or basic science research mentor for a single one-on-one mentoring session
Each year, the AES Research and Training Council provides $40,000 to fund workshops intended for broad-based, clinical or scientific audiences. These events highlight novel and creative topics in neuroscience that are for collaborative consensus or review. AES accepts funding requests during two funding cycles: spring (March) and fall (October). For the 2014-15 fiscal year, AES is pleased to provide $20,000 grants to the following two recipients: University of Utah: ADD Program Symposium , which focuses on Therapy Development in the Era of Team Science and Big Data. This conference, organized by AES member Steve White, will be held May 17-20 in Park City, Utah
(ABPN) certification in epilepsy has been extended from the year 2017 to 2018. AES, at the request of the AES Fellowship Program Directors Committee, successfully petitioned ABPN and obtained this extension to further facilitate the establishment of additional epilepsy training programs. David Ficker, MD, chair of the Committee noted, "we have made significant progress in the development of ACGME-approved training programs in epilepsy, and this request was made to allow ample time for all program directors interested in qualifying for certification to prepare and sit for the exam." As a result of the AES request, ABPN requested and received an extension from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) of the grandfathering period for applicant practice time to qualify for the certification examination in epilepsy
